The Faculty of Children and Learning at the IOE is seeking to appoint a new Faculty Director for Initial Teacher Education (ITE) to help shape the development of the next generation of teachers in the UK and beyond. We want to make sure that the IOE remains at the cutting edge, and working in close partnership with schools we see teacher education as integral to the work of the IOE as a world leader in research and teaching, and essential to the country’s future, especially the future aspirations of children.

Reporting to the Dean of Faculty, you will be responsible for academic leadership, management and development of ITE provision across the Faculty of Children and Learning. You will have management responsibility for four programme leaders, each of whom line manage teams of lecturers and professional tutors engaged in teaching and programme delivery. You will work alongside Heads of Academic Department on ITE workforce planning and development. You will also play an important role at corporate level providing leadership for quality assurance relating to the Faculty’s ITE offer.

You will need to demonstrate a strong commitment to the enhancement and development of teacher education of the highest quality, alongside notable experience of strategic leadership, policy analysis and development, planning and management. You will have strong interpersonal and negotiation skills that enable effective communication, especially in building effective working networks.

The post is available on either an academic (senior lecturer) or professional contract, depending upon your qualifications and experience. You will be expected to dedicate at least 0.8 FTE to the role of Faculty Director with the remaining 0.2 FTE allocated to academic (teaching, research and associated work) or professional tutor activity within an academic department of the faculty.

In view of the nature of the work involved, any offer of appointment will be conditional on a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau Enhanced Disclosure.
