Hours and Leave
You will normally work a 35 hour week. Some flexibility may be required according to departmental needs.
The leave entitlement for full time staff in Grades 1 to 5 is 39 working days, including 8 statutory Bank Holidays and 6 Institute closure days. The leave entitlement for full time staff in Grades 6 and above is 44 working days, including 8 statutory Bank Holidays and 6 Institute closure days.
The leave year at the Institute runs from 1 August to 31 July.
Pensions
Providing you have not previously been a member and retired, then you will normally be eligible to join the relevant occupational pension scheme for your grade. Both schemes are generally transferrable to and from other public sector pension schemes.

The Institute of Education, like many other Higher Education Institutions and private sector employers, processes pension contributions using a “salary exchange” scheme, known within the IOE as Pensionsplus.
Staff Development
The Institute is committed to providing learning and development opportunities for every employee. Staff development is provided both centrally and locally. Local staff development activities are organised and provided by faculties and departments. Central staff development activities are provided by a team situated within the Human Resources department. This central staff development team also provides specialist advice and tailored staff development for departments and faculties.
